Why Keurig B70 Coffee Maker is perfect for your home kitchen?

In 2006, a new way to brew coffee came out in the commercial market and quickly became very popular with coffee enthusiasts everywhere. Known as Single Serve Coffee Makers, these efficient appliances brew one cup of coffee at a time with a pre-packaged filter. The appeal of a single serve coffee brewer is simplicity. All you need to do to get a great cup of coffee is open the filter package, load it into the brewing casket and press a button.

As an avid coffee drinker, I couldn’t wait to test out the newest way to brew coffee. One of the higher end brands of single serve coffee brewers is Keurig. On the advice of a friend who already owned Keurig’s newest single serve brewer in 2007, I bought the Keurig B70 “Platinum” Brewing System at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $229.00.

Today, the Keurig B70 Brewing System is available for around $170 as one of the best Single Serve Coffee Makers on the market. The professional brewers at Keurig defined their brand very early in the single serve coffee brewing market. When I bought the Keurig B70 Platinum Brewing System, I expected a well-designed superior brewing system that would last years.

Right out of the box, the Keurig B70 System was remarkably easy to setup. The system itself has a few parts: the 60-ounce water reservoir (about 9-10 cups), the drip tray and the large brewing unit. Setup involves filling up the reservoir and attaching it to the brewing unit. Once the water reservoir is attached to the brewing unit, the heater will go through an initial four-minute setup cycle to heat the first cup of water. Future cups of coffee only take about 20 seconds. Finally, the drip tray is optional and needs to be removed for filling travel mugs.

A word of caution – use filtered water! The hard minerals in most tap water will clog your Keurig and dramatically reduce the quality of your coffee. Luckily, on the blue-lit panel, there’s a scaling indicator that allows you to gauge when to clean the unit. The B70 unit has five different settings for brewing size (4, 6, 8, 10 and 12-ounce) and two temperature settings at 186 and 192 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Keurig B70 Coffee Maker is definitely very stylish and adds class to any kitchen setup with its blue backlit window and water reservoir. The Platinum Brewing System is very quiet than one would expect for such a small brewing system. This coffee maker is the most quiet single serve coffee maker on the market as it use Quiet Brew Technology.

My Keurig B70 Platinum Brewing System was replaced within the first four months of operation when the pump stopped short of filling an entire cup during each brewing cycle. This later became obvious as “pump burn out.” I had been making about 5 to 6 cups of coffee a day with my B70 Brewing System when it failed. Keurig customer service was excellent and for about $20 in shipping, I received a brand new machine that’s given me carefree operations since its replacement. Of note, the new B76 model Keurig offers a Platinum Brewing System which does not have the same pump burn-out problem as the earliest B70 models.

After I received my new Keurig B70, I drastically reduced how many cups I made in one day (no more than 2 cups a day) to reduce the chance of a second pump burn out. As a result, we recommend this system for home use only as the pump may burn out too quickly in an office setting. For light to moderate use, Keurig’s B70 Platinum Brewing System is perfect for your home kitchen!
